This will give us the opportunity to get our SIN and set up a few things.
Congratulations! The one year is from the day medical is done not from the day visa is stamped.

Application processed in Nova Scotia September 2009
Details sent to local Australian Embassy Nov 2009
Medical request April 2010
Medicals carried out 23 April 2010
Medicals sent to Singapore 3 May 2010
Letter for passports 28 June 2010

Hi CanadaFrenzy.

I can't remember the exact cost, but I think it was about $250 Australian Dollars for the adult medical exam plus about $150 for our child plus another $90 approx per adult for the X-rays (children under 11 don't need x-rays)

We were 2 adults, 1 child so I think the total costs was just under $1000 Australian.

None of this can be claimed by Medicare.
