About a month ago I applied to work at one of the communites to be an assistant to take care of the disabled (with intellectual disabilities). The organization is excempt from LMO. The job description was on the website and I thought I could do it. I passed the interview and a few days later they sent me an offer and a full list of duties and responsibilities.. I was slightly shocked when I saw it. The list is huge.. I don't think I can do it now. Could it be that they are luring people in this way ? I haven't seen the contract yet, I suppose it's on the way, or maybe I'd have to sign it once I arrive? I have no idea. In the emails, they've assured me I could leave at any time, but what if that's a lie? Additionally, I have no college degree and no experience but according to the job classification (NOC 4212 specialty: group home worker) It is usually required. They claim it's not necessary. I'm really confused at this point and very hesitant. The community is also very far from the city, located in the rural area.. It does seem like none of the locals wants to work there so they are hiring foreigners..

I've also asked a friend who's in Canada on a work permit and he said if I come on a temporary work permit, I could find another job then apply for a new work permit and LMO won't be required that way. Is that true? I don't know if I can trust him either, but he claims to have done so..

Nope - not correct. If you find another job, that employer will first have to apply for an LMO and obtain an approval before you can apply for a new work permit. Unless of course the second job you find is LMO exempt.

Are you sure? I just don't get it why would he lie? HE says all his friends did it the same way and not one needed LMO. And he also explained that it is because he applied for a work permit renewal within canada and so different rules apply when a person is on temporary resident permit,

The rule is new employer = new LMO and new work permit.

The only exception is if someone is here on an open work permit (which is only available under limited circumstances) or something like a post graduate work permit that functions like an open work permit.

I don't think your friend understands all of the rules. He may just understand the rules that apply to him and his friends.

Ok, perhaps he was on an open work permit.
