I accepted a job as a Technical Assistant in a university in Ontario, and applied for a temporary work visa. It's been refused because I didn't have an LMO. I thought I was exempt because it's a co-op work placement and someone from my University in the UK has had the job each year for decades. Turns out I'm only exempt if I'm studying there.

I was supposed to be told about the International Experience Canada program when I got the job but they didn't tell me about it, and the quota has been full since March. That would have made me exempt from the LMO requirement but it's far too late for that now. I've been given more time than the initial starting date but if I'm not over there within a month or two I don't think I can keep the job.

I have no idea what to do. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get a visa?

You have two options:

1) Wait until next year when the IEC program starts accepting applications again and apply for that.
2) Have your employer in Canada obtain an approved LMO so that you can reapply for the work permit.

Unfortunately that's it.
