What if I as principle applicant was coming from the states and my spouse was coming from another country say England and we both hard a list of things to follow.

Could anyone tell me how detailed does this list of goods has to be?
For example:
Do I need to tell them that I am bringing extension cords, cables, gas can, funnels, car care items?
Do I need to have every single item listed outside of boxes?
I would really appreciate some help on this.

Are you coming from the USA?
Of course I can't guarantee what worked for me will also work for you, but ... I used general categories of stuff - check moving companies, some of them have downloadable forms. If you're using a moving company, they may have their own form. It helps to go room by room. Of course I had to make up some of my own categories, esp. for relatively high value items that didn't fit in other categories. It was fine, no one ever even looked at my list, but perhaps that's just the luck of the draw.
I did list fairly detailed contents on each box, but that was overkill (of course, it helped me find stuff afterwards). Get the recommendation of what ever company you're working with, if you don't have one yet, just find a major company that goes cross-border and has forms online. Use the same categories on your B4. (e.g. automotive supplies).
Be sure to check an up-to-date list of what you CANNOT ship across border - anything potentially explosive (that included all cleaners). When I moved, mattresses were blacklisted... (unless they were new and factory sealed).

Yes I am coming from the US, and I am using U-pack as my moving company. I really appreciate your information, it was very helpful. I am assuming that you are already in Canada, Am I right? I just had one more question for you. What province do you live in? If Ontario, how long did it take to have coverage by your health insurance?

Yes, I'm in ONtario. There's a waiting period of 3 months before you can apply for Ontario health insurance, and you have to show proof of intent to be here longer than 6 months (my current contract is a 2 year contract). I was required by my employer to pay for private insurance for that period, but it wasn't too horribly expensive and they made all the arrangements. You also have to get your SIN before you can get the health card.
I was surprised, getting the health card was one of the few very positive "customer service" experiences I've had in Ontario...(I was expecting mind-numbing bureaucracy, but it was rather easy and pleasant). Getting a bank account, on the other hand...
