This won't affect everyone but I know it'll affect some of you.

I called the CIC to ask what would happen if I lost a job which I had 600 points for between applying/submitting documents and receiving PR. They said our applications wouldn't be affected as we had the requirements at the time of application.

Peace of mind, especially for those of us working in volatile industries!

I want to be absolutely clear on this point. They said the LOCK IN date was at the time of application ??? Which application is the real question here. I can interpret this a couple of ways and wonder if they mean the FULL APPLICATION as in the package submitted in response to an ITA, not the date you submit your EE profile to enter the pool. This would mean if you lost your job before getting ITA AND submitting a complete application, you would no longer qualify. Have I got it right?

Hey Pippin,

Yes I asked about the time between actual full application (received an ITA and now all documents submitted and AOR received) and receiving the actual permanent residence.

If your situation changes in the time between getting an ITA and submitting documents/applying you would have to inform them before you submit I think and you may find you'll have to try for another job offer or wait for the points to drop low enough.

Hope that helps and good luck. Are you still in the danger zone then?

Hi Hulahoop:
Thanks for asking. It was a general question to clarify just incase someone misunderstood the timeframe. I was very lucky to be born in Canada. (Wondered if your Nick has anything to do with potato rings?)

Are you guys sure? I thought with the old fsw you have to maintain status throughout??
I'm applying through CEC although I'm not sure if that makes a difference in this case.

I'm sure in that the person I spoke to on the helpline seemed to confidently declare that's how it is, but I guess it's possible they were wrong.

The thing is, we just need the job for the 600 points to help us get the ITA. Having a job isn't technically a requirement of CEC it happens to help with points for express entry, if you see what I mean.

OK reading up FSW eligibility is based on points whereas CEC eligibility is based on having 1 year of Canadian work experience.

So it's possible that for FSW you need those points to maintain eligibility while technically a CEC applicant can't 'lose' their 1 year of work experience so they can't technically become ineligible. Maybe that's it?

This is really good news indeed. And yes, it does make sense. I have to say I was pretty worried about it. A lot of things are happening in Alberta... And it would be really a nonesense for us (CEC) to depend on the future of the company, looking at the requirements untill Dec 31 2014.

Well... Fingers crossed.

Thanks hulahoop!!

No problem, glad to put people's minds at rest!

There's a chance the phone operator was misinformed I suppose (people have suggested they get contradicting answers sometimes?) but they seemed quite sure. To the point where they seemed confused why I'd even ask as it wouldn't make sense to hold us to ransom when it's not a requirement for CEC (it's purely to help them prioritise).

I want to believe that's true. But they do give different info...

anyway.. in all the EE instructions, answers and helps it does not say that we have to mantain the status untill the decision has been made, as it says for example in the PNP (at least for Alberta)...

;)

It'd be great if others could share their findings here too.

If you press option 7 (i.e. 'find out more about express entry') they don't ask for your ID etc. if people are worried about it.

I didn't give my ID or anything at the time.
