ya, seems it's always the phils side that is slow, I wonder who's neck you have to break to speed it up? heh, I'm kidding, but it is frustrating that they almost seem to hold their own folks as prisoners and won't let them freely travel around where they would like to, of course other countries are to blame too. Like if you wanted to just come and see the rocky mountains, well, they make it almost impossible to.

less than 3 weeks til the trip. I'm not getting married this trip, just going to visit and meet her family etc, then the next trip I probably will. I won't be there long enough this time, and hopefully immigration canada won't require a ton of proof of relationship after you've met.

@affable

Thanks so much! After being through what I did here in Canada, and after hanging out with some filipina friends, wow what a difference. I like the conservatism, and the old fashioned values, and the big hearts! It's easy to see why men aren't looking in their own backyards for quality women, because they're in the Philippines heh.

How long? Some could make it for three weeks. If you are not marrying this trip, then, you might as well consider the tourist visa thing.

Frustrating, but, good things happen to people who wait. :) Keep the faith and again Congratulations with the engagement. :)

Aren't tourist visas almost impossible to get? I know the processing time isn't that bad right now for those, but the chances of getting one? Canadian immigration changed some laws on that too. I should ask an immigration lawyer a few questions soon I suppose too, to choose the best route, although, I think being married there is the best option so far.

You can always try the tourist visa option, especially now, that since you are not going to get married this trip. :) Nothing to lose much, except the application fee and the effort. But at least you tried :) And like I've said, she might be granted a visa.

You must be very excited now, eh? :) Enjoy and do not stress too much about it. :) Enjoy your new family, food and culture, and of course, most especially with your Mahal :) :)

Mabuhay!!!!!!

Is there anything to lose by trying a tourist visa? I can't believe how indecisive I am about this, I was very decisive as a soldier, but this is different haha.

She has a job as a nurse there, but no owned property, but has family roots etc, I'm not sure how much criteria she would require to successfully get a tourist visa, then the medicals, the interviews, the stress of it all. Maybe I'll just turn around and go back and marry in December (when her mother has time off and will be home from Hong Kong). Lots to think about anyways. I thank you for your replies and genuine caring towards my plans, it's nice to see genuine folks once in a while:) (another reason I chose a filipina) heh.

Wow, how come it took you 6 months? Good luck with the application though :)
i had to follow up all my papers to the government offices here in person. like the Marriage Contract (NSO authenticated), i went to the main office to follow it up because if i wouldn't it would take longer. plus they are not very friendly.

Hi!

If your gf knows the local registrar (or if she has relatives working in munical office), no need for the 12 days postings. My husband (permanent resident) and i applied for the marriage liscense on the 11th of aug. and we got married the next day. :) hope it helps....

I see, it took me two weeks to get the Marriage Cert. Too bad, that the office you have been to were not that friendly. Anyways, all is done and well, good luck to our applications!!! :)

Haha, you guys are all so great, not only am I looking forward to being with my lovely Filipina lady (in the true sense of the word), but I can't wait to get to know more and meet more groups of people here that are Filipina to hang out with, I have some already and what a difference! Cheery, selfless, fun people to hang out with, like you folks here heh.

You folks have had some great information for me, and I'm grateful. I'm wondering if I bring Canadian currency with me, will most banks or money changers be willing to change to pesos?

Absolutely, lots of money changers. On the safe side, you do not have to bring a lot cash on hand, my husband just uses his ATM to get money. It did not charge him much and exchange rate is good, but oh well, maybe it depends on the bank.
