Hi all I have a question that I hope is an easy one to answer... My hubby is Canadian and both of us have been living in the states for 10 years, been married 9 years. He recently got a job in Canada and our paperwork is in the works with the Canadian Gov. but we havent heard any news yet on my PR altho all is completed and submitted since April 2013. My Husband is due to leave for his new job in 3 weeks but I am still here in the states working and living but we have talked about me going up to Canada and waiting for my paperwork there. We do realize I cant work there until everything goes though but he will be working a full time job and my current job here in the states I have enough holiday time built up to pay out for a good 3 months. Is this something we can consider or do I need to wait here in the states before I can go to Canada? Also, if I have to wait here, am I allowed to visit him in Canada? Just some thoughts as its so hard to be apart as most of you know here on these boards.. thanks for the question in advance.
;D

You are a US citizen? If so you are visa exempt so going to Canada during the process is fine. I have seen here of many people doing that. Although entry is not guarunteed, I think if you show your sponsor approval as proof to not overstay you should be fine. Since you have not heard anything back at all and the processing time for stage 1 is 30 days (I believe) I would consider calling CIC call center to see if you can find anything out.

I would not show up at the border "lock stock and barrel" as they would see your intentions as moving at that time not "visiting".

I am sure others with more experience/input will reply.

Make sure to take proof of your PR application and proof of returning to your job. You should be fine. Americans are a low risk, especially if there is a PR application pending.

Thank you both for your reposes, yes I am US Citizen and I have heard of others that do wait in Canada and not work if its close but wasnt sure since I haven't heard anything yet. We will call and check the status or see if we can hear of anything, great idea...

Its great to have support of these boards while we all go though the same process....

Cheers!
