I am wondering how thorough customs is in checking the bags. I am not planning to bring anything weird, but my husband and I like to travel with a stock of different medicine (we've had some pretty bad experience in the airport when we were stuck without medicine), and I am wondering whether customs would inspect every single pill and require a prescription? Most of the things here in Nepal we buy without prescription so that's why I'm asking...

Anyone who's landed recently could maybe share their experience at customs???
Thanks

Nobody of course can predict whether you will be subject to a detailed Customs inspection so just be prepared to explain which medications you have in your possession if asked and answer honestly. Also you are not allowed to bring more than a 90 day supply of any individual medication into the country. For any prescription medication of course make sure you have the prescription document with you to support it.

With medications or drugs of any sort advice always is if in doubt declare it as avoids any misunderstanding and generally if over the counter or prescription supported probably wont be any issues. Of course there may be some over the counter medications in some countries that are not legal in Canada but thats up to the traveller to determine in advance same as with any country travelling to.

I am from India. In past I have handled this issue by taking prescription for the medicines from family doctor. I have done this for even for over the counter medicines.

No checking happened for us at Canada, just keep few things on mind. If you are arriving by air with a layover at US then US customs would question.
To be on safer side try to get a prescription from a doctor and carry what is there on prescription.
