We sent our documents to LA consulate 2 weeks ago and still have got no response. After going through this site, it looks like their processing time is way beyond the time mentioned on the website. We need to go to Canada to renew our US visa before school starts in Aug last week. If we had known about this delay before, we would have flown to LA itself.

I would like to know whether anyone has ever sent their documents for processing through mail and then decided to go in person to expedite the process. If anyone has ever done this or has any information on whether going to the consulate now would be any help, PLEASE let us know. Thanking you in advance....

1. I somehow doubt that going to LA is going to help. It is unlikely that they will drop everything else and search for your application. But it is your time and money, so you never know, you could get lucky.

We did go to LA and got our passport and visa!

My recommendation is that if you can actually go to the consulate, thats the best thing to do. I know its not always possible but maybe even a representative (family/friend) might work.

We just walked in there and the security asked if we had all the relevant documents and you can tell them that you sent it already. We were given a number and asked to wait, just like everyone else. Once we were called, the officer asked us for a copy of our documents, we gave them our passport copy. She went in and came back 5-10mins later with our original documents and returned the envelope we had enclosed. She gave us a reference number and asked us to come back the next day btw 2:30-3pm. We got the passport and visa the next day.

Once we were there, it was like we were applying in person. So, even though I havent tried this, my hunch is that if you have a friend near the consulate who can take the copy of your documents and the representative form and actually go in person, that should speed up the process very much. The wait time was also not too long-in less than an hour we were outside the LA consulate.
