Hi there,

Anyone here gave birth while waiting for PR?
I was told to send a birth certificate of my newborn baby to CPP Ottawa once I give birth.
It turned out that it takes about 16 wks to register a birth and receive a birth certificate in Ontario (that's 4 months... :o)
i just completed my medical but my doctor/radiologist refused to do chest X-ray on me due to my pregnancy (I had been given an oK and a letter from my OB to go through chest x-ray). I was told to come back after I give birth in 1.5 months. 1.5 months is not a problem but a 4-month waiting period for birth certificate on a newborn is very shocking...

Can anyone here please share your experience?

To add on, I am on Bridging Open Work permit expiring in the end of April 2014...
I guess I need to extend my BOWP.

thanks,

Correct, once baby born, register baby birth online using following link, one link for health card, Child tax benefits as well birth Certificate. Do not select short format birth certificate, Choose long format birth certificate.. They say 4 months .. but you will receive it within 45 working days

http://www.ontario.ca/government/register-your-newborn-baby

I haven't done it in Ontario, but here in Alberta it took us about 45 days to receive the certificate.

You are welcome. Apply online only as I advised for fast process..

Have a good one

It says 45days, but when my son was born we got birth certificate in 3 business days after registering online :) So unless they have lots of babies coming in, you'll get your really fast
