Girlfriend wants to Sponsor Me ( Relationship Visa ) Quick Question

Hi Guys,

Just a few brief Questions,

1) On the Form It wants proof I've lived with her for the past year. The Truth is I have , the problem is I have no receipts for my rent, I have no bills with BOTH our names on it, just some phone bills for myself, and some bank statements for myself, Will that be enough??

2) With the $550 I have to pay on the form, Will I get it back if I'm denied my Permanent Residency?

3) Is there anything special I can send in that will absolutely prove that I've been with my GF for a year and that we are in a great relationship??

1) No. A common-law application requires some form of proof that you have cohabited for a year, they are not just going to take your word for it. Get an affidavit from your landlord, family members, others who know you reside together. Pair that up with your telephone bills which show you reside at the address, and that establishes your cohabitation.

2. No. The fees for the sponsor and principal applicant are not refundable, only the Right of Permanent Residence Fee ($490.00) is refunded if the application is denied and it was paid upfront.

3. Nothing will "absolutely" prove the relationship on its own. You need a variety of proofs and support of the relationship.

No, the processing fees are not refundable. Someone still has to evaluate the sponsor, and even denied applicants are still evaluated before the decision is made to deny them. The $550 is your sunk cost for pursuing the application, and the cost to the Canadian government for using its resources to evaluate the application.

BTW The total cost of emigrating to Canada is way more than the $1095 of fees.

No Rent agreement, No Lease, No Receipts, My phone bill comes here, as does hers, we have no shared anything, we pay for everything on our own. :-[ I dunno if its worth trying if i dont have that proof

Some people with lesser proof get approved and some people with a lots of proof get denied. So take your chances, and you do not have to live with "what ifs". She is all worth it as you claimed. Like my husband would be willing to pay more than that just to get me to Canada and be forever together.

Follow CharlieD10 advice and research more. I am sure there is a way.

I would try to get an notarized letter or similar from your landlord, and people who knew you two lived together, any delivery receipts or invoices (from amazon or similar) that show your address, any bank statements or documents that show address, any envelopes from friends/family addressed to one or both of you at same address. And if you payed some bills and she payed some bills then you should be able to show that you were both maintaining the household, no? As a sort of secondary proof, you could also include things like emails to each other talking about household things (for example, my partner and I talk over email a lot during the work day, and we included a few where we talk about grocery shopping or plans for when we are home in the evening.)

If you REALLY want to immigrate, and you REALLY think you qualify as a marriage-like, co-habiting, common law relationship, then you may have to get creative and/or wait until a time when you can live together and gather hard evidence.

Start collecting "proof", pay for things together, start collecting photographs of what you do together, adjust the way you do things.
It sounds crazy, but that is what you need to make your life easier in the immigration world
Even if you got married your application has to convince a VO that you are a "real" couple, there are plenty of other things that need to happen, but without the relationship part there is no application.

If you REALLY want to immigrate, and you REALLY think you qualify as a marriage-like, co-habiting, common law relationship, then you may have to get creative and/or wait until a time when you can live together and gather hard evidence.
