Hello folks, I'm wondering if I would need to write an invitation letter for her in case she gets asked at the border.
And I understand that US citizens don't need a visa to enter Canada and there were also stories I heard that the Canadian border guards just spend 10 seconds to look at someone who presents a USA passport and in some cases don't even stamp it and just wave em through...
...but just in case she is stopped and harassed at the border and suspected that she wont be leaving Canada... I wonder if having an invitation letter that has my name, address, and phone number be handy.
I also read on various threads in here that the border needs to be convinced that she has reason to go back to the USA (i.e. ties). Which she has...
- family. Mom, dad, and dog... whom she loves and has good relations with. She will be crossing border with her mom.
- bank account (but has about $1000 in it. I wonder if I need to specify that in the invitation letter that I have $20,000 in my bank account and I have a job and I have a home address and I plan to give her free board and lodging). I also understand that they require proof of capability to support oneself at the border. Which I have.
- she is on thyroid medication that is covered by her mom's insurance in the USA. This is critical for her health. And doc can only prescribe so much medication for her. And since she got no OHIP, doc consultation would be costly and cost of medicine would be more expensive. And she can only live 1 week without that medication. She had thyroid cancer about 5 years ago and her thyroid was removed. But as a result she HAS TO BE on medication. So I'm wondering if this is a very compelling case to prove that she has ABSOLUTE REASON to return to the USA... cuz getting it in canada would be more co$tly.
