Hi,

My girlfriend is currently working in Dubai and she's planning to come here in December. She has a brother in Calgary but he doesn't want to give her the invitation letter. I have a friend (PR status) here in Vancouver who is willing to provide the letter. May I ask for your advise on the following please:

1. On the letter, we put that they are friends but they have not met each other yet. Will that be an issue or possible cause for refusal?

2. Though her brother did not provide the letter, she still wants to visit him in Calgary. She plans to go there on the day of her arrival in Canada. We wanna know if that is okay or is it advisable to book a flight the following day or what is the best option to do?

3. We put on the letter that my friend will provide the place to stay but my girlfriend will be responsible in supporting herself financially. We were told to provide my friend's NOA and Certificate of employment, is that needed?

4. Should we have the letter notarized? She's planning to apply online.

Hopefully someone can shed some light on our concerns. Appreciate it so much!

Hi,

1. It's not a good idea to pretend. Also, it would help to show some (not so recent) correspondence between the friend and your girlfriend.... otherwise why would someone invite a stranger?

2. She must state the details of her brother in the Family Information form. Yes, she can visit her brother anytime.
Any reason why her brother does not want to invite her? Her case would be much stronger if he is the host instead of the friend.

3. Your friend's NOA/financial documents are NOT necessary. Along with invitation letter, he must provide copies of his passport + PR card

4. Some visa offices require a notarized invitation letter. You'll have to check with the visa office

Cheers

Thanks Bryanna.

1. Is sending an email be an option for the correspondence or sending it via air mail is much better? We ran out of options for the person to invite her here.

2. Let's just say, he doesn't like me that much that is why. I know, this would have been much easier if her brother is the host. It's just unfortunate. She will put her brother's information on the form.

3. Btw, The person giving the letter will have his oath taking for citizenship this 20th. Will his PR card be okay still?

Thanks.

Hi,

1. Yes, email correspondence would be fine.

3. Your friend's immigration status and relevant documents at the time of applying

Cheers

I guess, we'll be fine if we send the email today and make her apply the following month?
Not really.... but you can certainly try.

Also, if your friend/host is married then have his wife invite your girlfriend.... you wouldn't want the visa officer to think your girlfriend is more than a friend to your friend

unfortunately, no. We just have to try and hope for the best outcome on her application. Appreciate your help Bryanna.

Will update this post if I have some concerns.

Another suggestion you may want to consider if your girlfriend:
1. Has good previous travel history i.e. she has traveled to Europe/UK/US
2. Good financial situation
3. Strong ties to both Dubai and her home country

She can apply like a typical tourist i.e. hotel bookings + she can pay for a well planned, day-by-day itinerary.... without an invitation letter from your friend (there's risks to this approach).

Also, instead of a Calgary-based itinerary, she could provide an itinerary for other places.... which will 'explain' why her brother has not invited her

1. Her travel history is not that much yet. She's only been to UAE and Bahrain.

2. She has actually been in Dubai for less than a year but she was approved for a loan which gave sufficient but not staggering amount of money in her account.

3. Her ties back home is only her family. Also, she has a piece of land under her name can we use that?

In Dubai, her only tie is the regular job that she's employed in.

We have created an itinerary visiting different parts of British Columbia only. She's hesitant to submit it because on her family information form, she has a brother in Calgary and she's worried that she will be questioned about it (especially why she was not given the invitation letter). You think that will be an issue?

On the Application for TRV form, under Details of visit to Canada, under funds available for my stay - we only put whatever amount is in her account? On the same form, under the person that she will visit, we can only put the name of my friend giving the letter and leave the number 2 blank, right?

Thank you!!

Hi,

I don't want to get your hopes down.... IMO, the chances of your girlfriend getting a TRV (even if her brother were to invite her) are low. You will have to work very hard to prove she has strong reasons to return to Dubai.

1. You cannot change her travel history at this point. If she has a good financial situation then her return trip to Dubai could be via a European country.... you would have to get a visa for the European country before you apply for the TRV. You don't have to book flight tickets.

2. As she has been in Dubai for less than a year, she must prove her ties to her home country also (for example, if she sends money to her family + the land ownership documents) + her immigration status in the UAE.

You can include the loan + any lease agreement + utility/cellphone bills, etc

3. Her actual itinerary for the visit can be different from the TRV application itinerary. Is it possible to include an email from her brother that says he will travel to XYZ to meet her when she visits?

4. The unofficial guideline is CAD 1000 per week of visit + airfare + adequate funds for expenses in Dubai immediately after she returns. None of the money must be borrowed, and must be sufficient for her planned itinerary.

5. If she's meeting her brother then you can give his address as the second person for the form

Cheers

We are hoping for the best but at the same time realistic about the possible outcome.

1. She is planning to book a flight that has a layover in Europe (roundtrip). Her stop coming to Canada is in Paris and her return will be in Amsterdam. She needs to apply for transit visa for both countries? She holds a Philippine passport.

2. She does send money so we will just look for the documentation and ask for her mom to give her the copy of the land title. She will secure the copy of her loan too. For the phone, she's only on prepaid and she has no lease agreement.

3. For the itinerary, will there be a problem when she submit a BC-based itinerary and when she comes here go to Calgary on the same day of her arrival. Asking help from her brother is quite impossible. But she still wants to go there once she's here.

4. I think we will be able to cover these.

5. You think it's a good idea to put her brother on the form even if he did not provide the letter? I know, she will go to his place once she's here but I am thinking that she might be asked why her brother did not give her the invitation (i could be overthinking now)? This is more challenging than I thought lol.

Thank you!

1. Do NOT book flight tickets until a TRV is issued. A provisional flight itinerary will be fine for the TRV application.
To answer your question: No, she does not need a transit visa if she does not have to leave the international zone of CDG Paris or Schiphol.

3. Plans change. So, no problem with a BC itinerary.

5. In any case, the visa officer may question why her brother has not invited her. So, you'll have to take the risk

Quick question? I'm in similar situation, but in my case we are both open that we are both boyfriend and girlfriend. What if anything do I need to show for proof of relationship?
