Hello All,

As I have a large credit in my account in past 3 months (money transferred by my father), I will have to submit a gift deed.

Can somebody please clarify if the gift deed needs to be on stamp paper or getting it on simple A4 paper will suffice. Also, if required on stamp paper, do I need to get it notarized also?

Many thanks!!

Best to get it on a stamp paper and then get it notarized.

Anyone who did Gift Deed and Affidavit on stamp paper, please help with more details

  • how much should be the stamp paper value? It should be non judicial or judicial stamp paper?
  • as getting cash as a gift from family, doing a gift deed requires stamp duty to be paid?

This is well explained in this thread..!

Actually a gift deed written on a plain paper, signed and notarised is what's needed. Indian stamp papers (judicial, non-judicial, Rs. 10 or Rs. 1million paper) makes no difference as they mean nothing to Canadian courts or have any legal value outside Indian borders.

But if you are not convinced, then go for any low denomination stamp paper.
