Hi everyone,

Today I was thinking following case:

If I have been working in company X let's say as web developer for 6 months, then I would be promoted as software engineer in the same company and I work as software engineer for one year, does this kind of promotion somehow effect on CRS when calculating points from work experience section? Because in CRS they require that person must be at least one year working in same company full time, so does in this case they calculate points like web developer - 6 months -> no points, because work experience with this job description less than one year, software engineer - 12 months -> get points, because it fills the minimum requirement.

Logically it doesn't make sense at all that if you have been working on some job full time in same company with title X then you will be promoted to title Y your work experience would not count.

You need 1 year of work experience in the same NOC. So if you're promoted, but your NOC remains the same, then it counts. Otherwise, it doesn't.

But in the scenario you've given, it would still only count as 1 year, because 1.5 years isn't an option.
But if you spent 6 months in job 1, then 18 months in job 2, you would have 2 years of work experience. Because as long as you've met the minimum 1 year requirement, all other skilled work experience can be added together, regardless of NOC.

Thanks istari,

When you said "But if you spent 6 months in job 1, then 18 months in job 2, you would have 2 years of work experience.", do you mean as long as those jobs are in the same company?

How about following situation, let's say web development experience in company A 14 months and web development experience in company B 10 months, would they be calculated as two year of experience?

Yes.
Only 1 year of your work experience needs to be "continuous".
And this "continuous" work experience does not need to be at the same company. "Continuous", in this context, just means that there is no gap.

So take this scenario, for example:
job 1: 1.1.2010 - 1.6.2010 (6 months)
job 2: 2.6.2010 - 1.1.2011 (6 months)
job 3: 1.6.2011 - 1.1.2012 (6 months)
job 4: 1.5.2012 - 1.11.2012 (6 months)

In this scenario, even though jobs 1 and 2 took place at different companies, there was no gap between them. So these can be counted as 1 year of continuous work experience if the jobs were in the same NOC.
And once that necessary minimum of 1 continuous year has been met, all the other work experience can be added together. So this would be 2 years of work experience.

If jobs 1 and 2 were in different NOCs, though, none of this work experience would count, because the minimum of 1 continuous year has not been met.

Oh okay now I understand it. Here's my scenario:

job 1: 14 months (web developer)
job 2: 10 months (web developer)
job 3: 12 months (software engineer)

Web developer and software engineer are in different NOC, does this mean that it would be counted as three years of work experience because 14 + 10 months = 24 months (web development) and 12 months for software engineer or even in this matter they won't be calculated together because they are in different NOC?

You can choose same NOC for software engineer, just need to make sure that job duties match to that NOC. web developer comes under 2174 or 2171, If you have chosen 2174 for web developer position, you can choose the same for software engineer. Just to make sure your duties are aligned with 2174. Job title is not important, duties are.

Even if job 1 and 2 are not continues they still can be added together in order to get two years out of that work? For example there have been a gap of one year between them.

Yes, they can still be added together. Because either job 1 or 3 cover the minimum 1 continuous year, so all other work experience can be added together, as long as it was in NOC O, A, or B, and was within the last 10 years.

Awesome and that's what I have understood this far. Would also training periods calculated as well as long as they were not undertaken during study period in University?

Thanks sms_1190 for clarification :). That does make sense, I have done web development under different titles and they are:

job 1: 14 months - web developer (title: IT specialist)
job 2: 10 months - web developer (title: junior web developer)
job 3: 12 months - software engineer (title: fullstack software engineer)

But I have done in all those titles and jobs same kind of work except with software engineer job I got more new tasks. The common tasks for all those jobs are web applications and software.

If they were paid, and you were fulfilling the requirements of a level A, B, or O NOC, then yes, I believe so.

They were not paid. But it is okay if they would be not calculated because it would have only helped me to apply earlier.
