Hi there,
I need as much help and advice as I can get and as fast as I can get it, Im going to start by posting what i wrote on yahoo answers because it sums up for the most part what i want to say here, then im going to add anything else i can think of after
Immigration to Canada or United States A.S.A.P?
To whom it may concern
I am a canadian citizen who is currently visiting my girlfriend in new jersey. we are planning on getting engaged or married very soon but after reading alot of information about immigration and other things we're not sure how to proceed. I am currently an unemployed canadian citizen for the last 3-4 years due to anxiety problems. I did not collect unemployment during this time and stayed with family. I am planning on seeking full time employment and possibly going back to school when I return to canada. My girlfriend is currently working as a residential counselor in new jersey.
Our plan is to either get engaged or married and then return to canada together or return to canada and get engaged or married. We plan on eventualy moving here to New Jersey to live permanetly but we feel it would be easier to start out together in canada. We have absolutely no idea how to proceed, what to do, or what order to do things in or whether she should try for a fiance visa or a skilled worker visa?
She is planning to quit her job and come back to canada with me as a visitor until we either get engaged, married or she is able to get a work visa. My grandfather said he is willing to be her sponsor and support her financially until she is able to obtain some kind of visa or whatever is needed.
Here is a very generalized list of some of the questions we have about this whole process, they're not in any paticular order and they may be a bit repetative but we just wrote down everything we could think of:
1. Can my girlfriend apply for a work visa while visiting me in canada?
2. what is the longest period of time she can stay as a visitor?
3. can she apply for citisenship if we become engaged or get married while she is visiting in canada?
4. If we become engaged or married while im visiting her in the USA can she come back to canada with me and stay as a visitor while applying for a work visa?
5. is my grandfather able to be a sponser for her until she is able to get a work visa?
6. if myself and my family are able to finacialy support her can she stay in canada while apllying for a work visa?
7. what is the easiest way for us to remain together troughout this process?
8. my girlfriend has been trained and is qualified to work as a residential counselor and currently works at a group home for people with mental disabilites, does she qualify as a skilled worker?
9. If we become engaged or get married are we able to apply for dual citisenship?
10. would dual citisenship be the easiest route to take for her to be able to live in canada with me a.s.a.p?
any help or advice that can be given would be greatly appreciated, we are very unsure of how to proceed or what steps need to be taken to make this work. I am here with a passport and only have a limited amount of time as a visitor so we need as much help and advice as we can get A.S.A.P
Thanks so much for your time
So here are some other things I want to add, my girlfriend and I have decided that we want to get married ASAP in canada and stay there for anywhere from 6 months to a year, I am still visiting her in a america and shes going to be giving her 2 week notice of Resignation at her job. As soon as her 2 weeks is up were going to be driving back to Canada together. My main concern is getting past the border and getting her into canada. I do have some other questions about other issues but for now i'l start with the questions about entering canada
1. Sine she is quitting her Job and she really has no other ties to america other than her parents who disapprove of everything to begin with, what should we say at the border if shes is questioned about her job or ties to america?
2. what should we say when they ask how long she is staying? Do I say shes planning on staying for 4 to 6 months with me and my family for a visit? or Do I tell them that shes coming for a visit and were planning on getting married during that time?
3. Do we just tell them outright at the border that she quit her job and that shes coming for a long term stay with me and we are planning on getting married ASAP?
my main concern right now is for us to know exactly what were suppose to say and how to answer all the possible questions they might ask at the border, we have a long, long drive ahead of us and my girlfriend is basicaly giving up everything she has here to come with me to canada and being denied at the border is not an option for us.
Once we are in canada we will be staying with either my Grandparents or my Mom and her Boyfriend. All of them are willing to help financially until we get married and after we get married and until I find a job. We are not planning on getting our own place while staying in canada because we want to save up all the money we can for when we move back to America in 6 months to a year so we will be staying with my family the whole time. Another thing I should mention is my girlfriend has enough money saved in her bank account to prove she can support herself financialy for the "trip" if she needs to prove that aswell as all the help she will have from my family.
Other questions I have are things like
1. how do we apply to move back to the US together after were married and staying in canada? ( I think I read somthing on here about somthing called a CG1 form? would that be our best option?)
2. How Long will it take for us to move back to the US together once we are married?
3.How does she go about paying her bills while she is staying with me in canada?
4. Does she become a Canadian citizen once we are married?
5. does she change her adress to my grandparents once we are married?
6. Can I apply for a green card to America while we are staying together in canada?
These are just some of the other questions I have about what we are suppose to do once we are married but my main concern RIGHT NOW is the whole situation about what to say at the border so she is able to stay as a visitor for 6 months and we are able to get married in that time. I will post any other questions I have under a different topic in the future.
I NEED as much help and advice as I can get ASAP because I only have 2 weeks left before we are leaving. Im hoping if you reply to this that you will be able to answer all the questions I have asked and if you have any advice of your own or a plan of what we should say at the border you could always send me a message on here.
Thanks so Much
