Hello

Ok I'm a female Canadian citizen by birth. My fiance will be coming to Canada on a tourist (visitors) visa next year and and we will get married right after that in Canada. After that i will sponsor him for PR. Since his visitors visa will expire after 6 months I wanted to ask if there is any other way my fiance can prolong his stay until he gets his PR other than applying for an extension of his visitors visa?

Also, do I have to apply under the category of 'spouse lives IN Canada ' since he will only be there for 6 months?

Last question, do you think its wrong for him to get married on a tourist visa? Will that create legal issues in the future for us during the application for spousal sponsorship?

Thanks in advance

Btw, Canada now gives visitors visas which are valid for 5 years.

First of all no its not wrong for you to get married while he is here on vacation ..Just be aware the marriage certificate can take up to 6 weeks in some provinces.

It depends on what country he is coming from ,he may get his PR before even having to extend his visit.

You will have to get an extension if over that time no other way.

Depending again where he is from you may be better to apply outland. So you would down load the forms for spouse living outside of Canada. In the mean time gather information, such as address schooling. work dates . E.g when he started each job if he was travelling, all this depends again on where he is from.

He will need a medical from a panel physician which you will leave to the last minute to get , also will require a criminal check from each country he has lived for more than 6 months. When he comes next year he is not coming to live just to visit. If he turns up with tons of baggage he may get returned.

The actual visa may be valid for 5 years, but each trip can't be more than 6 months unless you apply for an extension.
