SO here is the basics that I have been able to understand to THIS point

IN CASE You are getting married to a bosnian:

1) You have to take with you your Birth Certificate- Mine was from central america so I had to get it Translated by a certified translator followed by a visit to the notary. Translation with Mosaic BC (45) and then get translator to accompany me to notary (25), get Notary to seal (30)
***DISCOVERED It cant be more then 6 months old so AGAIN had to get the document re-dated (25)

2) Declaration of single marital status- signed infront of a Notary- I discovered it ranged from 50 to 150 and 30 bucks if you write it yourself.

3) Get these papers to be Authenticated in Ottawa-(Service is free) - translated birth certificate is going to be a week to get back and the declaration will be 5 weeks- Only have to pay for posting to go and back.

4) Mail these authenticated papers to Bosnian embassy in ottawa (though I've been told that it can be sent directly from Authentication Canada directly- but you have to arrange post with other embassy)

And hope that nothing goes wrong--

BUT I have a couple of questions-

Can I send a TRUE copy of my Central american Birth certificate OR does it have to be the original document- this kinda scares me as its my original birth certificate and getting a replacement would be hell on earth to get back from central america.

Am I missing anything else???

REALLY would appreciate ANY help. Getting married July 28 and need to have all these documents before then.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Basiclly you have everything you need.

But for your peace of mind, I suggest it will be the best to send your future wife to get some information directlly to the City Hall where the ceremony will take place in Bosnia.

Each country have their own rulles.

But they are very much alike.

When I got married, at the City Hall in Paris, it was mandatory requested that my future husbund to be present with me in front of the registrar and we had to file the papers 30 days before our marrige, all the papers had to be originals but they have made them legilized in front of us, like, the birth certificate, ID card, passport, divcorce paper if there is the case; all this papers are yours and they MUST give them back to you. The rest of the papers they have to keep them.

Hope that helps!

Good luck!

Hi there, I will also be getting married on Bosnia this summer and my boyfriend asked his cousin who works for the city hall and they told him that all I need is a birth certificate and a letter stating that I am not married. I will get my birth certificate (from Croatia) when I go down there, as for the letter of impediment.. i did mine differently... I was trying to figure this part out for a while and was calling many different numbers and one lady told me that I can just do a marriage search and that will check if I had any marriages in the past 5 years registered in my province. So i did that and i Didnt do the same process as you. I called the Bosnian embassy in Canada they told me that I need to call the municipality where I will be getting married and that they will tell me everything I need because they have different rule. So i think the letter I got will be okay for me.

sorry I cant answer your question about if you need an original birth certificate but I wish you all the best :) !
