Getting married after my interview, but before I leave to Canada

Hello,

I have applied for refugee immigration into Canada, my interview is within a few days, and I suspect that I will hopefully be accepted, and will be asked to leave to Canada within a few months

My problem is the following:

I have met a girl around a year and a half ago, and I proposed to her around 2 months ago. We are not yet married, but we are planning to do that very soon. If we get married within a month or two, is there some way for me to take her with me, even if that meant delaying my departure to Canada a few months or even a year. What can I do to include her in my application, even after I have already done my interview.

I would prefer to take her with me, not to go to Canada and then try to sponsor her, because if that happens, the process might take up to a year as far as I know, and I really would prefer not to be separated from each other this long, especially that her family might not provide her with support if she marries me, because we are from different religious sects, and the families are against the marriage, so she might end up disowned and alone in Lebanon while I am in Canada.

So, what can I do to take with me my wife to whom I got married after the interview?

Note: If the embassy asked for a proof of relationship or anything, we have tons of pictures, conversations, etc.

Tell the person interviewing you that you are going to get married before you go to Canada.
You cannot marry her, come to Canada as a refugee and say you are single, and then sponsor her. You have to tell CIC that you have gotten married before you come to Canada.

Hello

I had my interview and I was, thankfully, accepted.

The interviewer told me that if I get married in this time period, I can ask for a reuniting with my wife using the One-year window program.

My question is:

How long does the One-year window program take to reunite me with my wife? What is the minimum/maximum amount of time needed?

When is the earliest that I can apply for this One-Year window application? As soon as I arrive into Canada? Can I start it earlier somehow?

Thank you

I never heard of a 1 year window. Did you land as PR as status of single or married?

You cannot land as married if your spouse has not been added to your PR file and has not done her medical exam.

Thank you for your response,

My application is currently "single", but the officer told me that in case I got married, I can use the One Year Window program to make my wife apply under my same refuge program. But I need to surely inform the Canadian embassy about my marriage before I get to Canada.

Thanks for educating me on the OYW procedure. Since it is related to refugee PR, a topic I don't have a lot of knowledge on. I learn something new everyday. Thanks.

I'll be honest - I'm not that familiar with it either. I know it exists - but am not comfortable enough with the details to provide any advice.

OP - you may be far better off posting your questions to the Refugee / Asylum section of the forum.
