In most circumstances, you must first find an employer to provide a LMO. A LMO is authorization from the government of Canada (HRSDC) to hire a foreign worker. In order to get one, the company must prove it cannot find a Canadian to work the job. Depending on the job, this can be relatively impossible.

After you have the LMO, you then apply for a work permit.

Most jobs that hire with a LMO require specialized skills or are low-skill that don't qualify for PR. You should investigate the webpage of the area you're visiting for opportunity.

How long does an lmo take? We plan to get married when he visits me once I get pr an live in canada. How long after that before he could get a work permit?

If the employer has to apply, it usually takes 2-3 months.

If you apply for PR and sponsor a spouse, they can apply Inland and get a work permit in 6-7 months. If you apply Outland, it depends on where you live. Some offices process just as fast or faster.

Depending on how you apply as PR, there may be ways to include him on the application if you're married beforehand. Figure out what you're doing, how you're applying, then decide to get married before or after.

So what would be the quickest way for him to get the work permit while there? We will be getting marrief after I get my pr because my dad applied for me so I can't add my fiance.
