Hello,
I got a job in Vancouver, BC
I'm currently living in the U.S. and waiting for my LMIA.
My company said, once I get the LMIA, I can go to Canada with my current Canadian visitor's visa, and present it at the port of entry to request a work permit.
However, I'm not totally trusting this company because that's not the information I see in the Canadian Immigration site. So, I decided to get a second opinion coming here.
My understanding is that I need to apply for a work permit once I have my LMIA and that can be done in the country I live. Each country has different processing times, and I might need to wait another 12 weeks or so to get the work permit before going to Canada to work. Am I right?
I believe this company is trying to save time and wants to bring me in as soon as possible but I'm worried they might ask me to do something illegal.
Can someone help me understand what is the correct process I need to follow once I get the LMIA so that I can have an idea of how much longer I need to wait before start working on my new job in Canada?
I get confused with the terms "Work Permit" and "Work Visa". My company has never used the term work visa. So, when they say I need to apply for a work permit after I get the LMIA, that's not the work visa correct? And if that's not the work visa, how am I suppose to go to Canada without a work visa?
On person at this company said that if I'm in Canada legally, I can start working once I have the LMIA. That's doesn't sound right to me. Can someone explain this, please?
Sorry if I sound confused. It's because I am.
Thanks!
