i'm sponsoring my pakistani wife. it has been 6 months since i submitted the application to sponsor her and there's no telling how much longer it'll take. meanwhile she has finished her studies and is waiting for the sponsorship process to complete. she doesn't work either.

we both miss each other a lot and want to be together more than anything. the problem is that my job won't let me visit her due to lack of vacation days, and she can't come here because she obviously does not have a visa. has anyone here ever successfully applied for a TRV while in a similar situation? i'm not going to let her overstay her TRV because i know it'd jeopardize the sponsorship application, but i don't know what i can do to convince CIC that she won't overstay. any tips would be appreciated. :(

here's the list of supporting documents i am thinking of providing:
1. a letter to the CIC explaining that we miss each other and that i will be supporting her financially as well as ensuring she does not overstay
2. a letter of invitation from me to my wife
3. my sponsorship approval letter
4. my job letter
5. my income tax returns
5. my pay stubs

edit: i forgot to mention that she does not have any previous travel history or financial investments in her home country.

There are several people who were able to get TRVs despite having spouses in Canada + ongoing PR applications.

Your wife must be able to prove some ties + some convincing reasons to go back home..... her study program and/or a job could have helped.

Can she enroll for further studies in Pakistan before she applies for a TRV?
Does she have previous travel history to countries requiring visas?
Does she have dependent family?
Property ownership?
Does she have finances + financial investments of her own?

enrolling for further studies may be an option. i'll take that away and talk to her about it.

as for the rest, she does not have any travel history, no dependent family, no property, no financial investments. she's too young for any of that.

Same situation here. All she has is family ties. No job/school, assets, money in bank etc. We have a notarized letter from her parents.. That's about it. We will also submit her police record check, all my financial docs, invitation letter obviously, return flight quote from a travel agency, detailed itinerary of every day spent here, a letter from my parents supporting her visit, and a letter from my ex stating she feels it's important that my wife establish a face to face relationship by being able to visit with our daughter- my wife's step daughter. That may seem odd but my ex and I are still friends and she's very supportive of my marriage and also wrote a letter of support for the pr application :)

1. Apart from her further studies, she could also include some other compelling reason to return.... for some family event, etc.... with evidence.

2. Can she find a job.... or even internship?

3. She must be able to show some finances of her own..... or include a Letter of Financial Support from her dad + her dad's bank statements.

Another suggestion:
If she can get a visa for (example), the US or a European country.... then her day-by-day itinerary + provisional flight tickets must be such she will visit this third country and leave for Pakistan from this third country after her Canada visit

she could find a job but then she wouldn't be able to come here and stay with me. she receives all her financial support from me... perhaps that is a negative thing when it comes to applying for TRVs?

your second suggestion sounds tricky. she'd have to get the US visa first, buy tickets, and then apply for the canadian TRV later, right? they could refuse her at that point couldn't they?

I know you're replying to flx2015, but my wife won't be able to do any of that. Her father doesn't really have money and she lives in a small town (village) where there aren't many jobs.

Me too bro, I just bought a fridge for her family home because her parents can't afford one, so her fathers bank statements won't get us anywhere.

yeah i hear you. i bought my wife's family a solar power system because there's lots of power outages in pakistan. it was a practical gift from me for letting me marry their beautiful daughter.

i loved this country and i never thought they would hurt me this badly. feels like my heart is shattered.

First off, do use words like *stay or live with you*..... a visitor must only visit for a well-defined, short period.

Secondly, a job is not a negative for a TRV..... it is a positive tie and it demonstrates a reason to return to Pakistan.

Thirdly, one must not buy tickets before a visa is issued.... you must state that confirmed tickets will be purchased after the TRV is granted.

I had suggested (for example) if your wife is able to apply/get a US B1/B2 visa..... or a visit visa for a European country (it helps if you have friends/relatives there)..... then her provisional flight bookings + day-by-day tourist-type itinerary can be: Pakistan >> Canada >> US/Europe >> Pakistan

a job in pakistan would be a positive thing. i meant to say that me being her main source of financial support may be seen as a negative thing.

speaking of jobs, my father has a small business in canada. what if he were to offer his daughter-in-law a temporary job at his company?

Then she needs a work permit and that is a whole other headache.

True..... that's why I had suggested a Letter of Financial Support from her dad instead.

No. She will need a Work Permit.

This will not help her TRV..... because it will also show her intentions to remain long-term while her PR application is being processed.

Do give a thought to the further studies suggestion as another tie + do think of some other compelling reason to return to Pakistan after her 2-3 weeks visit (with evidence).

Also, when you apply for the TRV, do not use words like you miss each other, have not spent time with each other, etc.... the visa officer knows why the spouse wants to visit.... words like this could wrongly indicate that she may overstay
