My hubby recently lost his wallet including his driver's license and international driver's license. Are both these licenses needed when he gets his written examination for Ontario driver's license? Please advise. Thanks!

If he has to write the test, as if he were a novice, then his old licence has no relevance, and is not necessary. If he were allowed to convert his old licence into an Ontario licence, then yes, his old old licence would be necessary.

The problem with starting from scratch in Ontario is that he has to wait for 12 months before he can do the road test and get a G2 license. Until then, he can only drive with another licensed adult in the car with him.

If he doesn't want to start from scratch like that, he should replace his license, get a drivers abstract from whatever traffic or licensing authority you have in your homeland and bring them when he comes to apply for his license. They will then consider his driving experience and let him take the road test earlier.
