Dear Seniors,

as always, again i need some suggestion from you.

I am thinking to land in month of May and gone through qorax post "all about landing". which had cleared many doubts, but still need little more light :-

1). As i got VISA under FSW2 cat (AEO case), so as such no POF required. But still i want to carry 5000 CAD. Is this sufficient ??

2) There are many ways to take POF with us. kindly suggest me whether i can take all money in TC format (means TC of 5000 CAD) or have to carry some in cash (if yes, how much minimum is needed).

3) I am just carrying cloths, documents, medicines and Laptop with me and nothing is to follow me.
So whether i have to carry the list of accompanying goods or not

4) Is there are still chances of getting rejected at POE.

Regards

Ans. proof of funds is not required in your case. 5000 CAD sufficient will depend like if you have relatives there then it is sufficient for some time initially/
2) There are many ways to take POF with us. kindly suggest me whether i can take all money in TC format (means TC of 5000 CAD) or have to carry some in cash (if yes, how much minimum is needed).
Yes you can take it in TC. Try and take 50 - 100 CAD in Cash as you might need it might i mean on the airport. There is no minimum
3) I am just carrying cloths, documents, medicines and Laptop with me and nothing is to follow me.

Well that list gives you a window over customs duty so I would suggest even if you not getting it right now then you can get it later. So plan accordingly.
4) Is there are still chances of getting rejected at POE.
Hahhahaha stop worrying dude practically in your case no until unless you convict some serious crime (Kidding)

Hi Singhsaab,

Thanks for the PM, as promised here's my take on it, although Rocky has answered u perfectly:

1) As i got VISA under FSW2 cat (AEO case), so as such no POF required. But still i want to carry 5000 CAD. Is this sufficient ??
Ans.: $5,000 shall let u manage for 2-3 months [depending on the size of your family]. I would suggest take as much as u can, if there is no job waiting for u [I have no idea about your AEO]. Actually speaking, one should always carry the POF as designed by the CIC. It's the bare minimum in Canada... there would be many unexpected expenses in a foreign land. The comfort of your accompanying family is too important, especially if there r kids involved. There's no denying the fact that Canada is a 'costly' country -very expensive if one is coming-over from the Indian subcontinent.
My advice: Take at least $10-15K, even if u have a 'job' ready here.

2) There are many ways to take POF with us. kindly suggest me whether i can take all money in TC format (means TC of 5000 CAD) or have to carry some in cash (if yes, how much minimum is needed).
Ans.: As Rocky suggested, carry some cash as well. U'll need that initially after landing for food, groceries & other household expenses. Actually u'll need some change [$2] for the baggage trolley at the a/port. Besides, tea/coffee & snacks.
My advice: Carry at least $1,000 in cash, with $100-200 in 'loose' change. The local exchange house would provide that in your home country.

3) I am just carrying cloths, documents, medicines and Laptop with me and nothing is to follow me. So whether i have to carry the list of accompanying goods or not
Ans.: Good choice... not bringing-in anything later [most items brought-in from abroad here is rendered useless]. Efforts & Costs do not match that. U'll get everything here... in quite dime-a-doz. I'd always recommend everyone not to use the 'good to follow list' -it's fool hardy. Yes, for the 'goods accompanying u' -even the most trifle ones, fill-up the Forms B4 & B4A. What u listed above is 'only' the things to be brought in -good show.
My Advice: Get the Digital Camera/Camcorder as well. Don't u want to click your 1st imprints in the Canada soil? I did. Also, what about the wife's jewellry? Or r u 'single'?

4) Is there are still chances of getting rejected at POE.
Ans.: Yes, very much. But not usually & do not be alarmed unnecessarily. There r few cases on record, who did have to return back. If at all that happens, it'll not be a 'rejection' -but a 'denial of entry'. Denial can occur due to POF [not in your case], Health grounds, Criminality/Conviction etc. The IO at the POE would ask u certain questions [called the 'Entry Interview'] -it is part of the Immigration process. One may not be aware that he's being 'interviewed' -the IOs have a way with that... but they would get all what they want from u -maybe by a 'casual' tete-tete.
My Advice: Relax, it is not usual that one is denied entry. Unless u seem to be medically ill & unless u inadvertently say 'yes' to some of their questions [on criminality], u will sail thru. BTW: 99% cases sail thru.

I hope I answered u satisfactorily.

to add to the list:

we are thinking of landiing on 10th April via Ambassador Bridge. I got the list and POF etc ready, like bank account statement, letter from bank etc.. here are the questions:

1. Do we will COPR at the time of landing or can it filled earlier, I know we are not suppose to sign in the green box but what about the address where PR Cards will go to (in my case a friend of mine).
2. While specifying the address do I need to use notaion like my name C/O my friend's name .. as in US some mails are not delivered if last name does not match the address...

1. DANGER-1: Don't touch the CPR [locally called the COPR]. Anything & everything is to be filed by the IO at the POE. There is no user fillable column/row/field in the CPR.

2. DANGER-2: Don't write/inform "C/o" after 'your name' in the CPR or the PRC application. The IO shall decline to accept your friend's address. The requirement is to have your 'own' address for getting the PRCs back [via regular mail]. We all use someone else's address for this task [as usually we'd not have our own rental before landing], but we 'do not' inform that to CIC.

Note: Take a printed chit with the address written on it. The IO will see it & fill-it wherever required / whichever form/s.

All the best for your 'landing' in a couple of days !!!

Thanks Qorax and Rocky for your perfect answers as always.

@ Qorax

yeah i m single, job is ready and have a good list of relatives in Canada. So I think 5000 CAD will be sufficent.
Rest i will go with your advice 100%.

Thanks & Regards

Dear qorax initially when we land we don't have our address, we are planning to stay in a hotel for few days and then search for a house. So under this circumstances what address we have to write in the forms, suggestion [please].

Nothing... just info the IO at the POE that u'd stay in a hotel for couple of days. Once u find a permanent accom apply for the PRC at the nearest Service Canada office.

Another curious one:

I guess landing can be done on a weekend, but will the SIN offices be open to apply for SIN card..? Any thoughts ...Experiences..?

rinks25us,

I landed on 1st April at Ambassador Bridge and put through a lot of hassle since I was driving my own car with US Plates, the CBSA officer and his supervisor gave enough trouble and made me go back to the US immediately, my entire landing experience is there in this forum under settling issues topic, not that you might undergo the same, just a word of caution.

All the best for your landing.

U can and anytime of the week anytime of the day. The POEs r open 24/7. However, if thru road -u may avoid weekends due to higher volume of traffic.

SIN is a 15-20 minutes job [provided there's no much queue -which usually isn't]. They r not open on weekends. But, they r located nearly every where -most Malls too. So, it needn't be much of a botheration -just visit them the next day 7 the job is done, on the spot. U get the SIN print-out, which is enough for everything. The card would reach in 10-15 days, but u don't need that anyway.
