Hello,

Can anyone help me with some information on becoming a permanent resident in Toronto?

I am a NZ citizen and a certified hairdresser. Is it possible to secure an LMO in Ontario in this profession? I have management experience and have been in the industry for 9 years.

From what I understand, an employer needs to advertise a job and then prove a Canadian cannot fill the position... Surely this can be done? Especially if the position is that of a Salon Manager/Senior Stylist.....

Appreciate any feedback :)

I imagine it would be very difficult to secure an LMO in this profession in Toronto given how many experienced hairdressers there are in this city. But if your employer wants to give it a try - by all means apply. Yes - your employer will first have to advertise the job for a month to prove no Canadian could be found for the role (you should note that the advertising your employer must complete to meet the advertising requirements won't be free and your employer should expect this step to cost them several hundred dollars). After completing the advertising, your employer will need to submit the LMIA application for processing - processing will likely take 2-4 months. If the LMIA is approved (no guarantee it will be), you will then qualify to apply for a work permit.
