My fiance and I plan to get married this spring, and I plan to move to Canada to work after that. He is a study permit holder, so that automatically makes me eligible for an unrestricted work permit for the duration of his study permit. I'm very interested in beginning a job immediately upon arrival, and minimizing work permit processing times as much as possible. I called the Citizenship and Immigration Call Center, and the person who I spoke with told me that I should be able to obtain a work permit on the same day that I enter the country. She said this is a unique situation available to few people, except those like myself who can present spouse's study permit, proof of actually him being a student, and our marriage license. This was great news to me, but I wanted to get on this forum and confirm that this is actually how it works.
Has anyone been in this situation and received the work permit at the border immediately upon entering the country? Or does anyone have counterexamples where this has not been the case?
Thank you!
