Hi
Me and my wife will be travelling to Canada next month as we got PR. I want to know how much money can we carry? I read somwhere that the maximum physical cash must be $10000 and the rest of the money must be in other form. Among us my wife is the primary applicant. So is it neccessary to carry the proof of funds -bank statements or DD in the name of my wife? We showed around $18500 as fund during our visa processing.. so it is it neccessary to carry the same amount? And also can we carry more than that? If all the funds, the physical money and DD with my wife , would they ask separate proof of fund to me ?
Please help me

Hi.
Congratulations.
You can carry funds in any shape of form you like. It does not all have to be cash but there is no limit as to how much you can carry (cash or otherwise).
If you carry 10,000 CAD or more in cash you must declear it.
You will not be taxed for any amount you declear. It is advisable to carry as much as you can in your first landing, as next visits will be taxed.

You can carry funds 50/50 between you and your wife. You can also carry some cash and rest a bank statement. There is no sprcific rule as to how you bring in the money...except tge 10,000 CAD or more must be decleared...again its just a procedural duty and you will not be taxed for any amount you declear.

Just to clarify further if travelling as a couple or family then anything over 10000 CDN must be declared. So it’s not for example a couple travelling together with 10000 CDN each , only a single 10k counts anything over must be declared. Plus it is all cash/currency in possession not just the dollars.

As long as is declared can bring in as much cash as you like although obviously very large amounts might need some paper trail to show it is legit.
