Hi everyone,
I worked remotely full-time as a software engineer for a U.S. company while living in Brazil as a contractor for around 1 year.
I had a fixed amount of hours (8h/day), and the company provided all software and tools besides a computer since I decided to use my own PC.
Before I started we signed a simple contract stating my hourly rate and duties and then they would run monthly payments directly into my bank account. We used a simple spreadsheet as an invoice where I would log my hours.
The company is willing to provide a reference letter stating that I worked 40 hours, my earnings (whether hourly, monthly or yearly) and my duties.
Should I check the self-employed field in this case?
During that period I had a business number in Brazil to declare this income and pay related taxes.
I appreciate any help or direction and I'm happy to provide more information if needed.
