I have been on the verge of ripping my hair out at the frustration it's taken on me trying to find the best route for me to eventually move to Canada. It's either work or study. Well for work, I don't have the experience, and for some reason, everyone is yelling at me that it's impossible for me to get a company to obtain a LMO to hire me for a low-end job in Canada.

Because of my low end experience (I had 2 year associate in a degree I no longer want to have as my future), my only other option is to go back to school, but I would want to do it in Canada. However, that's like twice as expensive! Even though the study permit may be easier to obtain, I think it would be even more difficult because of the cost just to be there for one year. I have been trying to save up money for the past 3 years working in a retail job and have only been able to save up $10,000. I'm just highly frustrated and depressed as to how long it would take for me to save up to go to school in Canada.

I fell in love with the city of Halifax years ago and I just want to be able to go back there, because I know it would better my life in the long run.

Is there anyone else out there in a similar situation as me? And if you were/are, what are you doing? What route are you taking to be able to financially be able to go to school in Canada?

Edit: I am from the United States.

Look up this on CIC.gc.ca

International Experience Class

A.k.a IEC

And then head on over to the forum section regarding that. This is the student area.

Canada isn't the only place where you will be able to have a bright future, in fact you can have even a brighter future in other countries or in your home country.
Your life is what you make of it, if you are not able to come to Canada, that's not the end of the world, try other places or at least find yourself a job and get a few years of experience which will allow you to come to Canada as a skilled worker and not as a student.

There's no way to get a job a skilled worker, because all I can get are low-end jobs like retail in the US.

I need to go back to school, and I would love to do it in Canada so I'm atleast where I want to be for a little while...

I am under the impression I have to be a student first and have graduated before I can do anything with IEC, though.

I haven't even gotten accepted to a school because I have only saved up very little...

No Allie. That is CANADIAN Experience Class, a.k.a CEC

I wrote INTERNATIONAL Experience Class, a.k.a IEC

Two completely different things.

1. There is no IEC for US citizens, there is SWAP http://www.swap.ca/in_eng/us_index.aspx
2. Eligibility - the Following is required of each participant:

You must be a U.S. citizen.
You are aged 18 to 30 upon entry to Canada.
You are currently an enrolled student or a recent graduate of full time studies at a US College or University.
You have medical insurance with Medical Expenses, Personal Accident, and Repatriation of Remains up to $25,000.00 USD (this can be purchased through your travel agency once you register).
All participants must have a minimum if $1,200 USD in support funds available. (Support funds are the minimum amount of money you need to prove you have in your bank account as a safety net).
You cannot bring your spouse with you unless the spouse is individually eligible for their own Canadian work visa.
You cannot have dependent children or bring your children with you.
You cannot have a criminal record.
You choose the date you wish to enter Canada within your eligibility period and book your own travel accordingly. Spring 2013 student status will permit entry up to 15th February 2014. Fall 2013 student status permits entry up until August 15th, 2014.

It would appear the OP is not eligible.

Well, I didn't say OP would be eligible. I just told OP to go have a look at it. I honestly have no idea what countries are allowed to use it. I only know of it.

Thanks for clearing that up though.

IEC isn't available for US citizens, work permits under IEC are only available to people who are from the countries on this list:

http://www.international.gc.ca/experience/intro_incoming-intro_entrant.aspx?lang=eng

@allie1988, are you a US citizen or a permanent resident or what ?
