hi I'm a uk resident staying in bc for 6 months ( may extend if I can ) I have a full valid U.K. license but that's only good for 90 days here what do I do after that I went to icbc ( hell on earth ) as was told I need a study or work visa to exchange my license to keep using it but imhere on a ETA?
So where does that leave me I was hoping to take my commercial class 1 training here but there's no such thing as a government sponsored driver training school that I can find?.
So I feel like I'm severely stuck at this point and no one knows a answer
So any help greatly appreciated

You are stuck. Unless you have a valid work permit, student visa, refugee document, are a PR or citizen you are not eligible for a Canadian license. No way around it. And you wouldn’t be eligible for any program that is government sponsored.

Are you a UK citizen? If so, how old are you and have you looked into getting an IEC? They are all gone for this year - but could be a plan for next year if you meet the age requirements.

90 days rule apply only if you are moving to BC on permanent basis.

If you're just driving in B.C. as a tourist, you can drive with your existing insurance for up to six months — as long as you have a valid out-of-province driver’s licence and your vehicle is properly licensed in your home jurisdiction.

The 90-day rule does not apply if you:

• are visiting as a tourist for up to six months
• have a valid student exemption

Trouble is he wants a class 1 license. You can't get a Class 1(Commercial drivers license) as a visitor (or any other kind of license) and a valid Canadian license is needed for training/learning purposes.

Alberta requirements, but I'll bet they are the same across Canada. He will have an equivalent license, but not a Canadian license. They are pretty specific about commercial licenses.

The minimum learning or licensing age for these classes is 18 years. To learn to drive a commercial class vehicle, you must have at least a Class 5 or a Class 5 GDL operator’s licence. You may not apply for these operator’s licences if you are in the Graduated Driver Licensing Program.

It is no different in the UK.. I also cannot take my BC license as a visitor to the UK and say, hey, can I have a UK license?
Makes perfect sense in both situations.
