Hello,

I was living more than 3 years and 3 months (1189 days) in Canada and I checked through cic.gc.ca website I am eligible to apply citizenship. But unfortunately I didn't get chance to apply and moved moved to US to join my wife. Now could any of you please answer my questions or give me best advise what should I do?

Q#1. Should I go back to Canada and apply my citizenship case and then return US?

Q#2. Can I send my filled application to my friend and who can mail to Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Case Processing Centre - Sydney, Nova Scotia B1P 6V6?

Q#3. Can I send my application form from here (US) to Citizenship and Immigration Canada
Case Processing Centre - Sydney, Nova Scotia B1P 6V6?

Q#4. If yes is there any disadvantage or could it cause any future problem at the time of citizenship test/oath?

Q#5. Do I need to inform some one (Canadian officials or cic.gc.ca) that I am going to live here in US? While I have a permanent address in Canada?

Q#6. Although I had completed my residency time period (1095days) but is it compulsory to live until you become Citizen?

Could any one answer my above questions please? I will really appreciate. In advance thanks so much for your time and courtesy.
Best regards,

it's recommended to stay in Canada while applying for citizenship. let's wait for senior members to share their opinion.

Here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/faq/citizenship/cit-address-faq01.asp they do give an option for citizenship appliants to change their address with CIC if they are living overseas so obviously they have an option open that you are not living in Canada while your citizenship application is in process. I am not aware of anything that says you can not apply even though you live in another country. The application form gives you the possibility of giving an address in another country. I think you should still contact the embassy and ask to make sure or have your friend in Canada call CIC for you.

Just be aware that when they call you for the citizenship test, you may only know the date 10-14 days in advance and you have to be ready to drop everything and go. Same with the oath ceremony which can be 2-4 months later. They do give the option to reschedule both of them if you really have to but it's not advisable since they will not schedule them at your convenience. They may delay it another year and then the next time, it may not be convenient for you either and then they may ask you why you had to re-schedule, if citizenship is not really important to you or what.
