Hello,
im a 35 year old bitish male,
and im currently traveling around the united states on an ESTA for 90 days, I have to leave the USA on the 29th January 2012,
However i have visited Canada while i have been traveling, and would very much like to extend my travels to incorapate a few months in Canada when my time in the united states expires and hoefully find some temporary work, so i can support myself while in the country.

Any advice would be greatly appricated. I'm hoping i can start the process as quickly as possible so that im aware of all the options available to me.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear back form you soon.

You're too old for the working holiday visa program (cut off is 30).

Unfortunately I think your only option is to go the work permit route. To do this, you will first have to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a job. That employer will then have to submit a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) to ask permission to hire you. As part of this process, the employer will have to prove that they advertised the job and were unable to find a suitable Canadian candidate. If the LMO is approved, you can then apply for a work permit. Once the work permit is approved, you'll be able to start working. The bad news is that many employers aren't willing to hire foreign workers and go through the LMO process due to the paper work and time it takes (the above process can take many months to complete from end to end).

Hope this information helps. Good luck.

Just so you fully appreciate the situation, visitors to Canada are not allowed to work, temporary or otherwise.

Baloo - thanks for adding that bit. I don't think that came through in my message.

So to recap: As a visitor you can't work. If you want to work, you will have to obtain a work permit. To obtain a work permit you need an employer and that employer needs an approved LMO.
