From IEC to Visitor using Extension

My IEC work visa expires on March 30 and with applications not opening til mid-feb I'm starting to worry.

I was going to put in an application for an 'Extend my stay or remain in Canada as a visitor or temporary resident permit holder' type visa so that, come 30 March I could at least remain in Canada as a visitor and either wait for the IEC to happen or pack up and move back to the UK.

I'm just wondering, if I apply for this kind of visa and get it granted would that mess up an IEC application if it were processed/granted. I.e. I might end up with 2? Or if the visitor extension is granted and then the IEC is granted, will I have to leave the country and reenter and activate the work visa - will that be too confusing and complicate matters?

Should I just book a flight to the US on March 30 and then fly back the next day and enter as a normal visitor?

Thanks if anyone has any experience of this! I'm a new poster, but will try to help out if I can!

1. You can apply to extend your status as a visitor, but once your IEC expires, you must stop working. If you leave, and re-enter to get visitor status, you take the chance of being refused, you can pay the fee and apply to Vegreville for an extension as a visitor.
2. It wont "mess up" your IEC, if you get one.
3. Yes, you have to leave and get your new IEC work permit at a POE, showing the Medical Insurance and $2500
