Hi

My mom got her super visa in Apr 2017, valid till Nov 2018 (due to passport expiry). I got her passport renewed and visa extended till Nov 2019 which is valid now

She is going to India next month, and I am thinking of applying a fresh Super visa while she is there so that it is valid for 10 years and i don't have to apply for extension every time.

My question is
  • Can i apply for a fresh visa when we have the existing one valid?
  • How does the outcome of fresh application effect the existing valid visa?
Many thanks in advance for the response.

First to clear a misconception: Her super visa was NOT *extended*. You had applied to extend her visitor status. Two completely different things.

How long the new super visa will be granted will depend on the assessment of her application. It is not a flat 10 years' visa. Also, the maximum visa validity can be until the passport expiry.

Your mom's visitor status will become void as soon as she leaves Canada. Her super visa i.e. the counterfoil stamped in her passport that states a validity until November 2018 is already not valid for any re-entry if she returns to India.

How does the outcome of fresh application effect the existing valid visa?
This scenario is non-existent in your mom's case
