Freelance/contractor work experience

Hi guys,
is there anyone on this forum who's been through the same situation:
most of my work experience is freelance/contractor.
Wondering if I have to mark it as "self-employed" since can't really find anywhere the description of what is considered of "self-employed"

Every definition you look for anywhere freelance or contractor is defined as self employed if only for the fact that you are never really an employee of any company that you work for as you are working for yourself.
