Form IMM5540E

Hi,

This is a minor question in regards to form IMM5540E, the sponsor's questionnaire. I am specifically referring to the question asking about addresses outside Canada.

Unlike the usual tradition in these forms, the question does not specify since when do they want the address history listed, i.e. age 18, before becoming a canadian resident, ...etc. The guide does not provide more details, either.

I have a long list of addresses since reaching the age of 18, and I have included them in my own application of residency few years back, and they were probably part of my own background check at the time. Unfortunately, I have no recollection of some of these details now, and definitely not of phone numbers (not required on those forms). Anyone had any problem if they only listed overseas addresses since becoming a canadian resident?

Thanks.

Can't remember previous addresses of sponsor

Hi all,

My husband (sponsor) can't remember some of his previous addresses (Q8, Form IMM5540 E) & the dates of residence. Can we provide his official address instead? Or approximate times for his residential address? Should we provide a stat-dec stating its approximate/to the best of memory?

Thanks for your help!

Oh I have a question here too. My husband became a citizen in 2004, and before tht he was staying in India. Does that mean he has lived in another country? Do we need to provide that house address (that house is not theirs anymore)?

i wrote all addresses before i landed to Canada and also after i moved outside Canada to be with my love :) many people had this concern and some called CIC: basically u need to write all addresses outside Canada since u were born; if u don't remember it exactly, try ur best to describe the house, neighborhood, etc (some people did....check with the search function for older threads)

so, shamsia, yes, before he landed in Canada, he was living in India, so write those addresses down even if that house is not theirs anymore....actually it should be the same address with the address his parents declared when they applied for immigration....if u have copies of those papers it will b easy to track - just write those addresses again; now, depends how long he went back to study: if it was 1-2 years yes write it down, if it was for a summer vacation then that's temporary - i don't think it needs to be written

rrv, i think they understand that the dates from 20 years ago are approximate....but the most important try ur best to give a start date and end date (don't leave anything blank) and at least have the year right....tell him to ask family, parents, brother, sisters, maybe someone remembers

Thanks for your reply!

Will city, country & dates suffice? And can his Office/Employment/University address replace residential address?

Get everything - the address, the dates, and the phone number - as accurate as possible. Don't substitute other places for the residential address - if they check, which admittedly they may not, it will just cause unneccesary delays.
Then for any place where you cannot be exact, just add a note explaining why. They will understand if you don't have the exact day you moved into some place when you were 10 years old, 25 years ago.
You don't have to make a statutory declaration stating the dates are approximate - just write an explanation.

In some cases, ordering your CAIPS notes and FOSS notes might yield copies of old applications, so you could verify addresses and dates from that.

no problem u welcome :) yeah i know how it is the filling forms responsability :/ overall, read carefully the guides and also ask ur hubbie or other family members to double check...the forms look easy at first in general but when u start to dig deeper lots of things could b confusing and misleading...but this forum is very helpful ;)

rrv, i don't think the office/university would replace his residential address...with all the technolagy today, internet, google earth/maps they could so easily see that a university is there for example...u don't want them to become suspicious from small things like this...try to be as accurate as possible
