Hi all,

I just open a restaurant and want to hire my oversea friend as foreign worker to BC. She has more than 10 yrs experiences in restaurant services and was high school graduate from USA.

I wonder would temporary work permit is better or permanent work permit better for her?? which is faster? and if once she entered BC with temporary work permit can she change her status to permanent work permit, if I offer her a permanent position??

Does anyone know what are the processes and what kind of information I and her need to submit?? How long is the process? I have checked out couples websites and found it's so confused with mixed info. I also have came across about application are not accepted until after June 30, 2012 because they have reached their limits, 10 000 applications, for the period of July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012. Info??

What is National Occupational Classification (NOC)? and what class would my friend is under?

Thanks for all your help............

Go to the BCPNP page and start your homework. Your friend would probably come under the Entry level category or higher. You can find more out about the NOC (classification of jobs) here: http://www5.hrsdc.gc.ca/noc/english/noc/2011/welcome.aspx
If Entry level in the Food and Beverage industry, she may be able to apply for BCPNP within 9 months with your offer of a permanent position. If you have a vacancy for someone in the ),A or B category, she would not have to wait for 9 months, but could apply for a direct BCPNP.
First or all, you have to post your vacant position for at least 14 days on the Canada Job Bank website. You must prove that you cannot find any Canadians or PRs who are suitable candidates before you can request Services Canada to give you a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) which states hiring a foreign worker will not take a job away from someone who is already in Canada. http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/ei_tfw/lmi_tfw.shtml
