I'm wondering if anyone here has had a similar question.

I'm hindered on my CRS by my age, and of course trying to build up points wherever I can. Prior to my coming to Canada for school, I had experience which I'm trying to relate to my current job position, at the advice of a consultant. However, I wasn't informed at the time that the experience (at least for Express Entry) is required within the past 10 years. I had to quite that job to attend school, with took a few years longer than the 4 required for my degree, due to having to take a leave of absence to return to the US to look after my mother in ill health. I've now been back in Canada for 5 years, so in total, I was out of the US work force for exactly 10 years now.

I feel like these are pretty understandable extenuating circumstances, and feel like I should try to get them to accept this for my CRS, and was expecting to include this info in a letter of explanation. Has anyone here tried this before, and had any luck with it?

I truly wouldn't try to claim that work experience. For one, you would have to add fake information (dates of employment) in your profile so that the system grants you those points. Not a gamble worth taking.

oh definitely not going to lie about dates. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether the stipulations for the 10 year range were something they'd assess differently under the CEC vs. Skilled Worker...I mean, the school duration plus the Canadian employment experience kinda eats up a huge chunk of time...

I understand what you're saying but I strongly believe you do not have a compelling argument in order to claim that work experience.

Hmm, maybe not. Seems odd they wouldn't validate work experience that relates to the work position I've had here since graduating; that was 7 years at that position, and it was the last job held before returning to school, and subsequently entering the work force here. Then again, much of the process can seem odd at times!

Let me be more straight, you can't claim work experience that is more than 10 years old even if you have your own reasons. Any experience beyond 10 years is irrelevant. This is not up to the officer's discretion, so there is no point in trying to 'convince' the officer to consider it. You are welcome to try, but don't expect it to be accepted. Good Luck!
