Foreign civil union interpretation in Canada for PR application purposes

Hello, my partner and I are currently awaiting an EE ITA (1050 points), but we have a question regarding our legal status as a couple in Canada. We entered into a 'civil union' in 2021 in our home country, and although not technically marriage, it is recognized as a legal status for couples in our home country, and we possess official documentation confirming our union.

Our principal concern pertains to how this status is interpreted in Canada. Should we apply as a 'married' couple or as 'common-law' partners?

When we first came to Canada through study and work permits, we stated that we were married and didn't have any issues with the documentation provided as proof.

Thanks!
