Hi everyone!

To sum it up, my boyfriend had a 2 year work visa, but had to move back to his home in Ireland this past October since it expired, but he's now wanting to come back to Canada and study.

I read for him to be eligible for the post-grad work permit, he needs to do a full time program that is at least 8 months.
We have been aiming to do the one-year common law, then sponsorship for to help get his PR. So, with that being said... if he were to do 6 months of studying instead (would have to leave afterwards, I know) and I moved to Ireland at the same time(which I'm fully willing and able to) for another 6 months or more, would that count towards being considered as common law? I know for it to count, we can't be apart for long periods of time, so thought I would ask about this scenario.

Cheers! :)

Yes it would certainly count. The 12 months just needs to be continuous with no breaks, it doesn't need to be at 1 address or even in the same country. So 6 months in Canada then 6 months in Ireland would be fine. Of course just make sure to keep ample proofs of the cohabitation at each location.

Fantastic news! Thank you so much.
