Hi All,

My friend is a food counter attendant in Alberta for almost 2.5 years and is now planning not to renew his papers with his present employer becaus he has now an LMO and a contract for two years for a new work as a cook. It is in the skilled category so he is thinking of bringing his wife in canada by spousal open permit after his application of the new work permit as a cook.

Is anyone here on the same situation?
What are his chances of getting approved?
His prospective employer told him to secure somthing like "food safety"? Is that a certificate?.. training?

Your replies are greatly appreciated..
Thanks a lot in advance..

Google "Food Safe Alberta" and you will find all sorts of links. I am surprised that as a food counter attendant your friend did not have to get this certification already.

Hi Pippin,

I dont know but maybe its not required by his employer to take that food safety training as food counter attendant because he told me it is now required because he is now applying as a cook.

I have a question, if he gets approval on his new WP as skilled (cook), can his wife apply immediately an open work permit? If so, his wife would want to work in Toronto instead of Alberta because the wife has a relative in Toronto and has a job ready for her. Will that be fine?.. I mean, is there a restriction in the Spousl Open WP that the wife has to work only in the province where her husband is working?

Thanks a million..
