Flying to Canada to apply?

Would appreciate some advice - either directing me to a relevant thread or just letting me know if it's possible. My wife and I live in the UK. She's Canadian and we have a young child. We're seriously thinking about moving to Canada to be closer to her family due to how difficult we're finding this parenthood lark, but we don't want to have to wait for months or years going through the visa process. Would we be able to go to Canada and apply for my residence from within? Do you, effectively, have to lie to immigration when you enter saying you don't plan to apply for residence? Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hey,

Im married to a Canadian and am applying inland for my PR. I was very upfront with the border officer. I came as a visitor from the UK, explained I was here to be with my wife and that we were in the process of submitting our visa application. I got referred to immigration, as expected, who asked a few questions about her name, job, address, my full name, whether I had any convictions, they asked what I was going to do for work, which was a trick question of course...but I think this is all they are concerned with, you working here illegally.

I guess the more honest you are the less nervous you are and thus the more genuine you appear to the immigration officer, I was in there for 10 minutes and let through. You are not doing anything illegal by coming here and you are allowed to apply from in land, so there is nothing to hide.

This is just my personal experience, and as bad as it sounds, and i really hope its not the case...but I probably got an easy ride as a white, well spoken, polite British male.

best of luck

you can apply for outland now while you are in UK (outland process much faster than inland)

you can enter Canada after you applied for outland.

if you show a proof that you applied outland already, you would receive more than a year on your visitor status.
