Flagpoling at Peace Bridge question

My step-son (12) will be doing the landing, but we wanted to go down to the US and do some shopping that day.

Should we land first and then go back to the U.S., or is it okay for the three of us to enter the U.S., shop and then land on our way back home?

you can shop and then land. do a good amount of shopping because they will be tax free as you are landing.
