First PR Card

Hello everyone!
So I became PR in mid February and so far i haven`t received neither my SIN Card nor my PR Card. I`m a little concerned about that since all my friends and friends of friends did receive theirs in no time. Does anyone know if there`s a way to track the card? I tried to sign in in the CIC page with my UCI number but all it shows is that the process was finalized at Mississauga Centre.
Also I read online that if the card does not arrive by 180 days I should send a new request to CIC. Does that make any sense? The processing time is 45 days now and I would have to wait up to 180 days to request a new one ? ...

Thanks,

As you said, the current processing time for PR cards is 45 days (that doesn't include mailing times). So it's a bit too early to be expecting your PR card. You should have it in a few weeks.

Where did you apply for the SIN? Did you apply as soon as you landed? Presumably you received your temporary SIN# - so you don't need the physical card to work.

hi, they don't issue SIN cards anymore, and getting a SIN# is your responsibility. IRCC will not issue you a SIN# automatically. you need to go to Service Canada and apply for one, and they give you a piece of paper to confirm your number. You do not need your PR card to get one. All you need to apply for a SIN# at Service Canada is your COPR (landing document) and Passport.

It can take months to get your PR card and technically you haven't waited very long for it. If it doesn't arrive after 3 months, then you can try calling the call center about it. More than likely they will just tell you to wait. if it doesn't arrive after more time, then you can submit a "solemn declaration" form to inquire about its whereabouts. It is quite common to wait 3-6 months for the card.

the card is not needed to gain services in canada, it is really only needed for commercial air travel to canada. only select provinces require it for "permanent" cards for insurance, but for the most part the COPR and Passport will allow you to apply for anything.

Thanks,
I saw a post recently from someone who said they got their card six weeks after landing. Mid-February still puts you within that window.

thanks guys for all the responses! I will definitely try to calm myself down haha
I have my temporary sin # yes and I got as soon as I landed. The thing is that I thought they would send me a card but now I understand better.

the sin # you received after landing as a PR is your permanent one, it is not a temporary number.

here's the link to service canada about no longer issuing SIN cards:

https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/sin.html

1. Overview

Service Canada is now issuing SINs in paper format (confirmation of SIN letter). Production of the plastic SIN card has stopped, however, SIN cards that are not expired and are currently in circulation can still be used.

I am a study permit and work permit holder with a sin number(never received the physical card in mail), after I become PR, do I need to apply for a new SIN number?

what date did you land? I landed Feb 2nd and got my PR card last Friday, March 17. Exactly 6 weeks after landing. It is taking around 6 -8 weeks to get PR cards, so you are still within the time frame. You'll prob get it in the next few weeks.

You have a temporary SIN. Once you are a PR, you will need to apply for a permanent SIN.
