:'( I was hoping someone here can help me. I am a Canadian citizen born in BC and have lived here all my life. I am married to a filipina and we have a son together. We are trying to get them both here to Canada so my son can see his family here. While waiting for the embassy to issue visas, we were told my son is a First Generation Born Abroad and is entitled to Canadian Citizenship. So my question is..if he is entitled to it, does he still need a visa to come here? and if so, why? he is a citizen after all. Hopefully someone can explain it to me better then the consulate and embassy because they do not have a grasp of plain english. Why does it have to be so hard for my son who is only 13 months old to come here?

Your son is a citizen but it needs to be clear that he is before you can bring him over. The process is to apply for a citizenship certificate through the embassy. When you get it, you can apply for a passport for him. Unfortunately it can take months to get it. If you have immediate need of travel and you have already bought tickets, you can apply for the citizenship cerfificate at the embassy and apply for a temporary passport for him at the same time.
