First Cousin applying for Visitors Visa

Hello All,

My first cousin is currently residing in Chicago, Illinois, as a full time student and wants to visit Canada this December/January. He had applied before in December 2013 but was rejected because the officer wasn't convinced with his ties to the US.

I have received my Permanent Residence in August and am in a better position to invite him.

When he started his application progress, he has to upload the following documents;

1) What do I upload as Proof of relationship? He is my first cousin.
2) He hasn't bought tickets yet and will be staying with my for the duration of the visit. What can I upload for Proof of Travel?
3) What to upload for Letter of explanation?

There is no such thing as "Proof of Travel" in your list.

That is where he explains the nature of his visit.

I'm sorry, purpose of travel which asks for travel arrangements and/or hotel bookings. He will be staying with me for the duration of his visit, so no hotel bookings. He doesn't want to buy tickets until he gets his visa.

He has even got admission into a University, starting January 2016, where he will finish his Bachelors in 2 years. He has been working part time in the college as well. He has more ties than before to the US now.

No, it doesn't ask for that.

Purpose of travel requests any evidence of what he is planning to do in his visit. Indeed travel arrangements help to specify the purpose of travel, but they are optional.

Itinerary would suffice. Also any other evidence (for example if you plan to go to a concert then the concert booking) can help establish the purpose with more certainty.

You should had mentioned in the post. This looks much better.

Sponsor is secondary, what matters is the immigration/economic situation of the applicant.

To be honest, he is visiting Canada just to relax. No plans to go out or anything. Just local attractions and sort. I guess I'll tell him to show an itinerary.

Yes, he is in a better situation than last time, financially and otherwise.

Is this 2016 admission on a fresh I-94 or does he have a new F visa too? Typically visa posts are not fans of I-94 extensions as the sole proof of non-immigrant US status they prefer to see a visa too. I concur that his economic/ personal situation is what matters not that of you as the sponsor. A challenge too maybe that he hasn't started the course so he isn't tied to it as yet and to CIC he could just not show up and hang out in Canada. This especially if his current I-94 is about to expire. Has he paid for the new course? Submit proof of payment. It would be better if he had already started it but just try sometimes you got to take a chance. Proof of relationship requires submission of his birth certificate, your birth certificate and the birth certificate of each parent being the source of being cousins e.g. if your mum and his mum are sisters then only a birth certificate for both of them will prove they are sisters as they should in turn have the same parents listed. If he does get a Canadian visa and is on an I-94 then he should watch his days in Canada (max stay 30 days) and make sure he follows and is eligible for the automatic visa revalidation scheme.
