Hello people, just want to ask a few things which I can't seem to find much information on. It's probably important if i address myself first so you understand my current situation. I have a wide set of qualifications including a Level 2/3 Business diploma, NVQ, GCSE, First aid, Drivers license, etc; I'm currently 19 and almost completed a firefighter's apprenticeship course. However I wish to emigrate to Canada as soon as possible and continue my role over there until I open my own business, I have over £80k in my savings account and have a lot of friends over there. How easy will it be for me to go like this? I have my 2 years work experience being a firefighter and completed temporary work elsewhere when I was younger. (I don't understand if it fits into the same category)

Many Thanks, Harry.

Hi Harry,

For you to apply under Federal Skilled Worker, your experience must meet one of the 29 NOC, and for which the cap is not reached yet. I checked and couldn't find firefighting available. If it's nit in the NOC kist, you can't immigrate under this category. You can however apply if you get a job offer.

Good luck

So by that you mean I could go online and sign up for a vacancy and obviously discuss my situation to the services? Would that be the same as having a job "offer". I know that I should be very near the point criteria as I have the age and language on my side (I also know little French & Russian).

The MI 'Ministerial Instructions', as you rightly pointed, defined a pass mark system with criteria on age, education, experience, language...etc. Please read the immigration EG7 guide, check the link in my signature.

On top of that, your experience should match one of the 29 NOC. If it's not, there are other ways to immigrate. One is to find a job, the other one is thru PNP 'Provincial Nominee Program' ...etc. You need to read the guide and get yourself familiarized thru CIC site.

Good luck

Okay thanks a lot! I've heard about this PNP programme before, I hope soon I'll be able to emigrate! cheers.

Do a Google search. I just put in "Vancouver Firefighters Employment" and all sorts of positive links came up. I wonder if you send a letter and resume to some fire departments where you wish to live you might get some useful advice/possible job offers. The fact that you have experience and training, they may be happy to offer you a position as it will save them a lot of money not having to train you. Good Luck.
