My hubby is going in for his fingerprints today for his police clearance. He has the fingerprint sheet and $10 for the fingerprints. Does he just state the fingerprints are for immigration purposes? Does he need to take anything else with him?

Tonight he'll fill in the checklist of items needed for the FBI clearance and credit card information for $18 to the national treasury. It also states to ensure all application information is filled in correctly on the checklist. Are they referring to top part of the fingerprint sheet that states (name, age, race, etc.) as the application?

Also, I heard that sometimes the fingerprints are not good enough quality. Would it make sense to send two fingerprint cards in now in case one is denied? Would we still just pay $18 to the treasury? I just do not want to wait 3 weeks to hear that the fingerprints were not good enough. I appreciate your assistance!!!

Go to a good fingerprinting agency. I went to one agency in my city and they charged me $35 for which the person there gave me 2 copies of fingerprinted card with all my info typed on the top portion. There are two types, one is regular fingerprinting and other is digital fingerprinting. It doesn't matter which one you do, but do it with a good agency so that you will not have the problem of your application being returned. FBI takes 6 to 8 weeks to even return your application. You don't want to loose that much time.

FBI processing time is now closer to 12 weeks.

triple p - he'll also need to bring government photo ID with him. Passport is probably best, though I'm sure a driver's license is good too.

I also second Pasi's recommendation of going to a quality private service. My wife first tried the local police station and they had a hard time getting good prints. The private place did a much better job because they had better equipment. She also sent in two sets of prints to be safe since she has dry hands with bad ridges.

we actually got it returned once.. thats why i went to a private fingerprinting agency and paid $35 to get it done. that time i told the guy that we got it returned previous time.. he was so confident that his fingerprinting will not get returned.. he said he has done 1000s of FBI applications and knows how to do it.. and like he said, we got the criminal check record correctly.. so it is always good to get it done at an experienced vendor..

We went to a local police station and had my husbands done. He was confident in his fingerprinting ability, but I'm not too sure about FBI fingerprints. I guess we'll just wait the 12 weeks and see how this fairs out.

I also want to know if any other Americans are highly annoyed that the FBI implemented a new system in Sept which created a backlog, pushing the time from 21 days to 12 weeks? Typical government, implement stuff that should have never passed QA.
