You can look for a job while visiting, but without a work permit you are not likely to "legally get a job".
Maybe you could find a company that will hold a post open..... who knows.
If you find an employer who's willing to hire you, you can do the WP application/visa processing in the US (send it to a consulate in the US, if you do not have a US visit visa). The prospective employer needs to advertise the position for at least 14 days at the national job bank and a major daily or website and if no Canadian citizen or permanent resident applied or qualified for the position, can file for a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) in your favour. Once a positive LMO is received you can send your application to either Buffalo, Seattle or go back to your country and apply from there.
