Finding an employer to sponsor you

Hi everyone,

So, my concern is how to find an employer to sponsor me for the ontario provincial nominee program so that I get a work visa and my PR. I am planning on studying HR and finding a job that will sponsor me. Is it hard to find a job in HR? Has anyone studied HR and tried to find a job in HR and then been successful with getting their PR?

Any leads or advice will be appreciated!

Hi Gyanika

Your question is highly debatable, overall I can say its all about ones luck of finding an employer who will sponsor you to stay in Canada (since the past few months, its been a hassle for foreign workers to find an employer due to the labour market clashes and TFW rules being bent and taken advantage of)
On the other hand we cannot totally say you wont or you will. The right answer is MAYBE you wont MAYBE you will. All depends.
If your not finding any luck you might wanna change your plan of action.
Importantly, I got this news from 2010 while I was new in Canada doing my 1 year course form GBC. A cafeteria friend of mine was doing HR too and told me that for her co-op she cudnt get a job at all no matter how hard she tried. She said the most frequent answer she got was "we prefer taking Canadian citizens for HR positions due to their vast demographic knowledge of applicants... taking a foreign worker as an HR is less fruitful cos they aren't aware of the Canadian labour market functioning and the various attitudes of Canadians"
Im just letting you know. but don't be negative .. keep trying and pushing as much as u can

HR is a pretty difficult field to break into if you aren't a Canadian PR or citizen. Not to discourage you, but I think you should assume it will be very difficult to find a job in this field.

Can anyone suggest:

My Client wants to hire me.. but I am on closed WP with my company,ie I cannot work for any other emplyer.

Do i have any option to switch to other company or to join my client?

I know there is LMO process but i dont think my client directly hires through LMO. These big companies usually hires through agencies.. !!

Yea u can switch to the other company but ur client can't just hire your straight off ..he needs to go through the whole lmo process. Unless u applied for Cec and have ur air already then u can apply for an open permit. (Read on the forum that many unemployed people are being given the bowp as they r on their way to become Cec pr's)
But I'm not sure if u quit on ur own will would the work permit officer ask u questions about y u quit etc.
If u are fired then that's a different thing...but voluntary quitting I don't know.

Hi,
I am not sure if I completely understand as to what you mean. I was laid off recently (did not quit, but was let go) but I meet the eligibility criteria for CEC and I am finding it very difficult to get back into the work force due to the complications with regards to an LMO requirement.

I know to be eligible for BOWP you need to be 4 months short of your wp expiry.

Are you telling me that you can apply for BOWP even if you are not 4 months shy of your wp expiry and since you are unemployed that CIO will give you a BOWP to get into the work force? My wp expires mid-2014

Yea dude CIC officers are giving open work permits to people who have already got their aor confirmation. People on this forum without a job like u and me are being given work permit.
So I have also sent my app for bowp along with my air email. Fingers crossed.
Ur scene and my scene are similar. I was laid off and my lmo closed work permit expires in may 2014

Winterfox, this is news to me. How come there is no mention about this anywhere as I feel that i have exhausted all my resources in terms of CEC information.

I am still in waiting of my CELPIP test which are on the 25th of May and my PCCs from America and India which will be taking their own sweet time.

So, once I send of my PR papers and once I receive an AOR from them stating that all documents needed are in order, then, as per you, i can apply for my BOWP/OPEN WORK PERMIT right away without waiting for the 4 months to be left on the expiry of my closed work permit?

How many people do you know have succeeded in obtaining this?

Thank you and yes you are right. There are a few who took a chance and have got it.

So I will just send in my application for PR and once I get the AOR I will apply for the BOWP without wasting any more time.
